An exceptional Lightwave
Part of my job which I enjoy enjoy immensely is incorporating 3D animation and visuals into and a part of my motion graphics. I have been working with 3D since about 1992 and I have been using Lightwave 3D for the last 10 years or so.

The Lowest Common Denominator
You know its funny that with all the hype surrounding the Ipad my big question right from the start - is the iPad going to have a scribe?

Secret squirrel preferences... that old chestnut!
Well I can honestly say I've had some of the most difficult few weeks to date with my hardware and software. You know those days when everything seems to have a bug in it and you know its the start of a long and drawn out process trying to find the source of your problems. It usually happens when you install something new and the whole house of cards comes crashing down… but mind you not immediately. It usually happens two or three days after you've installed something, a delayed response to your idiocy of wanting the latest and greatest thing to make your life that much easier and faster.

Particularly Particular
Apologies for the delay.I do specifically want to write about Particular 2 which has been a recent upgrade to my effects armory... and what an upgrade! The people at Trapcode never fail to amaze me at their plug-ins. I've been using Particular right from when it first came out and was a much needed Particle generator that us stupid people could understand. Unfortunately the Particle...

Non-standard standards
The first website I saw was in 1993 back in the good old days, when sites were scrabbled together by programmers who had no sense of design or layout but still were the only ones who knew the black art of HTML. I started learning it back then because I knew that something big was about to happen and I wanted to be in on it. I designed a few sites that were in my opinion stretching the technology, a technology that was already quite old as it was meant to be for text transfer.

Size does matter... especially at Christmas
I just recently purchased a Sony Handycam AVCHD CX11 which is smaller than that first walkman. Its hardly a professionals first choice as it is directly marketed at the consumer and pretty much doesn't have the robust nature of higher end kit, however it really has knocked me sideways with its capabilities. The reason I got it was due to the fact that my partner is pregnant with our...

Synergistic User Pays
You know its a difficult task being a freelancer, what with keeping clients happy, keeping up with the latest technologies, maintaining the life/work balance, coming up with new ideas, keeping focussed, deadlines, keeping on top of tax, paying bills, mmm yes, paying bills...

Industrial Resolution
I've just seen the replacement for HD on BBC technologies website Super Hi-Vision, man oh man I was just getting my head around rendering to 1920X 1080 in 3D and now we're heading towards 7289X4320 pixels in the not too distant future.

Rules for a VJ to live by:
VJing at parties is always a difficult but fun way to show off your talents to your peers. Not only do you have to hold it together while everyone else gets mashed up you have to shine in every way so that your mates don't rip the guts out of what you're trying to achieve, which is ultimately their enjoyment and edification.

Great value excellent Form
Trapcode came onto the scene in the Motion Graphics industry a few years back and have made a huge impact on pretty much every motion graphics designer slash operator slash animator I know of. I don't think there is a movie slash trailer slash corporate video made in the last few years that hasn't owed something of its lightswirls, particles or 3D strokes to this innovative and highly creative developer.
