NXCAM

So Sony have introduced yet another format to the market - this time it's called NXCAM.
So what do we know - the NXCAM camera will shoot to two types of media: Sony Memory Stick Pro or an optional bolt-on Flash memory recorder.
The camera shoots AVCHD at 24 mbps, which should produce superior images to HDV.
Further more, the NXCAM can record 1920 x 1080 images at 24Mbps (50i or 25p), as well as supporting 720/50p and Standard Definition recording. Given, that the camera has both HDMI and HD-SDI out, this makes for a very interesting proposition. One could connect a NanoFlash or Ki Pro for uncompressed recording.
Claims of being able to record 11 hours of video onto the removable Flash drive will certainly raise a few eyebrows.
So the Sony affordable HD line-up will be made up of 3 options: HDV, NXCAM and XDCAM EX.
NXCAM seems to fit in as a more modern codec to HDV and will be more affordable than XDCAM EX.
At the moment only prototype details have been revealed. Once NXCAM is on the streets and being used in real-world situations will the true story be told. Until then we watch with interest
