The Ki Pro by AJA is a portable hard disc recorder which records direct to ProRes standard or high quality. Nothing like a real world shoot to see images and get a feel for what this camera is capable of. Sony's first professional AVCHD camcorder, will record 1920 x 1080 images at 24Mbps (50i or 25p), as well as supporting 720/50p and Standard Definition recording. Here we road test the PMW-EX1R. This is the successor to the PMW-EX1, Sony's first professional memory-based camcorder, launched in 2007. The PMW-EX1R adds a number of new features that Sony says were requested by users, including DVCAM recording, an HDMI output, a higher-resolution viewfinder, and one-push Auto Iris, cache recording and easy access to S & Q motion. The EX1R supports multiple frame rate recording such as 59.94i, 50i, and native 23.98P and 25P as well as being 1080i/720P switchable.

He explains key benefits of the Panasonic technology: working tapeless, using the overcranking and undercranking facility, and the smooth workflow which a frame-based codec brings to the editing environment. Filmed off the coast of Marseille, the filmmaker is shown in action, making use of mattebox and filters, and explaining various techniques by which he has developed his craft.

Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, Frontline Television News broke ground by providing cameraman/journalists specialising in filming in conflict areas. Using lightweight, portable cameras, this new breed of journalist told stories inaccessible to larger crews. The price was high as many from Frontline Television News were were killed on assignment. The Frontline Club has been set up to remember fallen colleagues and to support independent journalism in the 21st century. Vaughan Smith is one of the original Frontline team.
