21st Century Road Movie, filmed in Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and New York, takes us on a journey, testing the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, seeing what it can do, a good look at the footage, and hearing from those who know what the camera is capable of.

Few cameras have generated as much interest as the EOS 5D Mark II on release. This digital SLR has the ability to shoot 1080P video at 30 frames per second; allows for one to lock exposure with the ability to adjust exposure by 2 stops over or under; and features a 3.5mm mini-jack for audio in. While not perfect in every way - what's on offer is good enough for filmmaking.

One of the biggest limitation is the form factor. Shooting video with an SLR style camera is awkward compared to a video camera. The still camera form is built for a certain shooting style: to hold the camera and watch moving images on a video screen is not the easiest of tasks to perform.

Audio presents another issue - requiring split system audio for best results.

Then comes workflow, converting the 30P footage to 24 or 25 fps - depending which part of the world you live in. This has been successfully achieved using Apple's compressor.

It gets me wildly excited as before us we have a movie making machine, when combined with accessory rig, lets us work the still camera form like a movie camera.

The quality of the images shines for the EOS 5D Mark II. What is produced is truly remarkable.
