First Sony 3DTVs to launch in June

Sony will begin selling 3D TVs in Japan on 10 June and worldwide at about the same time. A firmware upgrade to its PlayStation 3 console that adds 3D support and other 3D-compatible home electronics products will also be available to coincide with the television launch.

Canon adds 24 and 25fps HD Movie recording to the EOS 5D Mark II

Canon has announced that the long awaited, video-related firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II will be available from mid-March. Firmware version 2.0.3 enables full 1080p HD video recording at 24, 25 and 29.97fps to match the PAL and NTSC broadcast standards. It also adds a new histogram display while shooting movies and allows users to manually control sound recording levels. Audio sampling frequency has also been increased to match broadcast material standards.

Canon announces MPEG-2 Full HD (4:2:2) File-based recording codec for upcoming professional video camera

Canon has announced the Company has adopted an MPEG-2 Full HD (4:2:2) file-based recording codec for a new file-based professional video camera currently under development. The new Canon MPEG-2 codec will enable high-quality imaging and audio performance with up to 50 Mbps data recording and twice the color data of the HDV*1 profile format.

Sony have announced the MEAD-SD01, an adapter which enables the use of affrodable SDHC cards in XDCAM EX cameras. SxS media is a professional format and not available from retail outlets, so in situations in the field where additional media is required or for cost-conscious users, where this ultimate performance is less important, Sony have developed the MEAD-SD01 adaptor to enable the use of consumer SD Card media.
