New Express card adapter for XDCAM EX cameras

Affordable alternative to SXS

Rick Young

E-films, Australia, have developed what is called the MxR Expresscard Reader, designed to provide an affordable alternative to Sony's SxS cards.

This Express Card Reader is specifically designed to accommodate SD/SDHC cards only. It uses a push-in/push-out mechanism where the whole SD card is enclosed in the reader. Previously, the Kensington adapter, dubbed KxS, would work with affordable SD cards, however, the door to the PMW-EX1 would not close when using the adapter. This MxR Expresscard Reader overcomes this limitation.

Using SD cards with the MxR adapter provides a low-cost alternative to SxS, the limitation being that the overcranking facility on the XDCAM EX line of cameras does function to the same capability as with SxS.

The adapter will retail for $35 USD + shipping.
