Jon Thorn, Product Manager, Desktop Macintosh Products, AJA Video Systems Inc.
The AJA IO HD was announced at NAB 2007 and is designed to do real-time conversions of source video in real-time to Apple’s ProRes HD codec. In this interview, Jon Thorn, Product Manager for Macintosh Desktop Products, AJA Video Systems, talks about the benefits of using ProRes, the strengths this codec offers, and what makes the IO HD box unique.
AJA's IO HD is the only device in the world that supports Apple ProRes HD codec in hardware. A single FireWire connection will allow the IO HD to connect to a Mac enabling true 10 bit editing on the road with 720 or 1080 HD, in full 10 bit quality in 4:2:2.
The IO HD was developed in co-operation with Apple to allow Final Cut Pro to deliver ProRes files natively, in real-time, in the edit suite or on location. It is expected over time ProRes will become an established standard in post-houses and edit facilities through-out the world.
