Will Final Cut Studio run on a Mac Book Pro 13-inch: 2.53GHz? I only have enough budget for a 13 inch MBP. I am trying to work our what aspect of Final Cut studio will be compromised if I don't up my budget to a more expensive machine.

I am a broadcast documentary editor needing to edit in full 1080i HD (at times). I am aware that Final Cut Studio tech spec states that it requires

ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)
128MB of VRAM
15 inch
Does this mean the only machines that are suitable are 27 inch iMac and the 15-inch: 2.8GHz. I have been advised that only these machines have a graphics card with that level of in built memory.
Unfortunately this adds another £600 to my budget, my question is it really worth it?
Many thanks

dancingbear,
The size of the screen only means things appear smaller. You should plan on using a larger screen for final. Things you don't notice on a 13 inch monitor will be huge on even a mid-sized tv.
As for the capability of the machine do this: From the finder menu select go•utilities•system profiler and look at the graphics card installed, it will show the specs and how much memory there is for video. It should run fine but the program is large make sure you have enough hard drive capacity for your projects or get an external. And get as much RAM as you can afford, RAM makes the world go 'round.

Good luck,

My friend was in the same situation like you a month ago, he went ahead and opted for the 13". You can run Final Cut Studio on a 2.53ghz MBPro but only just without buying extra RAM. An example with my friend was that using the multiclip tool to sync his music video project just couldnt cope. My advice, save up. A 13" MBPro is small and too cramped for editing anyway.
