Hello I am new to all this so here goes

I edit on a PC mainly, (Premiere Pro 2.0) but my PC is fading fast and I need to get a new machine that will run the above. How about the new Intel iMac with the new 'boot camp' PC option, will that do the trick? Is this a G4 or G5 processor?

I have an iBook which I hope to use with FCP soon and would be a useful back up machine for FCP for an iMac or similar.

I am stuck with a PC facilty for a while until I decide which route to go for eventually.

Any comments please?

stevieH,

Firstly the new Intel Macs are neither G4 or G5. This a completely new Intel architecture that Apple has decided to move to.

As for running Premiere Pro on the Intel Macs under Windows that should be possible and if reports to date regarding Photoshop's performance it should be quite a quick experience.

If you buy a new Intel iMac you should have the best of both worlds. You could still run your Premiere Pro under Windows and if you wish and have purchased a Universal copy of Final Cut that of course would run under the Mac OS.

It's only a rumour as yet but it seems likely now that Adobe will return Premiere to the Mac platform and release a version of Premier Pro for Mac.

So whatever happens you would be in a good position. So be happy, the sun is shining, the birds whistling and all is well.

Good luck.

Ray

stevieH,
Sorry, as an add on to my reply.

You said you use Final Cut as well as Premeire. If you have any ideas on how I can get over my problem under the post 'Motion in FCXpress' below your post I would be very grateful.

regards

Ray

raywatts,

Just to add a word of caution here.... Yes, Boot Camp seems to perform well running XP and Photoshop - we've all heard the stories.

BUT - this is still a public beta of software which'll be available in the next version of OS X. To put your faith in a piece of software which is still at this stage of development (what software is ever not in development?) I think is a bit misguided.

In my opinion (though I am of course biased) if you are thinking of getting a Mac, run FCP. Sure, use your Boot Camp installation of XP and Premiere if you must, but don't rely on it too heavily.... just in case!

My two pennies

Chris

PS - Ray, I posted a response to your query about bezier handles

Hi Chris and co, I have decided on the Intel iMac route for now. The Bootcamp system is free so worth a try, I will let you know how I get on with it. 20'' iMac should arrive in a few days.

If the Bootcamp deal is not as good as it seems I will have to get a PC noteboook to get by on for now.

Anybody know what SSE2 enabled means, the start of all this was I got a Premiere Pro 2.0 upgrade (sorry for foul language in Mac circles) and the message came up on my 3 year old PC notebook and would not allow the upgrade to load, it is a genuine Adobe product and works well on a newer desktop machine.

Cheers stevie H

Cheers Chris followed the AMD link up and they were on the ball instant, almost, reply. Unfortunatley looks like a new computer or a new processor in a desk top machine. Very dodgy on Adobe's part, a lot of people have bought Pro 2.0 or the upgrade and will find that they cannot use it with a reasonably new machine. Adobe is relaunching Premiere for the Mac soon too!!!!

This is crap really.
