CalDigit AV Drive

Speed really is the thing with this drive, the option to use FireWire 800 or regular USB 2.0 is available but once you attempt a transfer with USB 3.0 you'll be reluctant to go back.
Impressions of the Panasonic HPX-171

Just spent most of the last week shooting with Panasonic's HPX-171. For those unfamiliar with the Panasonic camera range the HPX-171 is the European model, the equivalent of the US model, the HPX-170. This camera shoots DVCPro HD, or standard definition DVCPro, or DV to P2 card. There is no tape drive on the camera, therefore the only option is to record to card. For those want the ability to record to tape, Panasonic also offer the HVX-201A.

First of all, let me tell you this is by no means a complete and technical review of the new JVC GY-HM100. I'm not a cinematographer, so I won't be throwing too many technical details at you guys...

This light-weight professional camera records high quality native QuickTime files direct to solid-state media which can then be edited straight away inside of Apple's Final Cut Pro. There is no need to transcode or change the files from one format to another. The media is ready to edit immediately, either from card or by bringing the files straight into Final Cut Pro, or by copying direct to hard drive.
Interchangeable Lenses on the Sony HVR-Z7

The Sony HVR-Z7 offers so much to videographers and yet is so limited unless one takes the plunge and invests in interchangeable lenses. The crown in the jewels is the VCL308BWH which in 35mm photography terms provides an angle of view equivalent to 24mm. In additional to this, by using the Sony LA-100W adapter one can then attach Sony Alpha or Minolta lenses to the Z7, opening up a world of shooting possibilities.
AVID Media Composer 3.0
James Morris
September 4, 2008
Following a recent change of senior management, Avid has changed its policy. As part of the company’s new strategy, the latest version of Media Composer arrives at around half the price of its predecessor, and includes a whole lot more in the box, too.
Shooting with the RED 4K digital cinema camera

The RED ONE 4K camera feel like a cross between a film camera and a large video camera. It is solidly built, feels and operates like a camera of the highest quality, and works with lenses which would traditionally attach to a 35mm motion picture body. It is an incredible achievement that an independent camera manufacturer has been able to produce a working system which challenges the established players in the world of high end acquisition.
